Social Commitment: The Magdala Foundation

The Magdala Foundation is born in 2001 at the initiative of the Macarrón de Vicente family, majority shareholder of Gestair group.

Its main objective is to promote the sustainable development of underprivileged populations, especially in Latin America, through integrated development projects. Its priority sector focus is on women, children and youths.

Its mission is to develop projects that allow for self-sufficiency by promoting and strengthening the capacities of  people, so that they, themselves, can be the protagonists of their own development. The question is not to contribute funds, but rather to co-operate through supplying voluntary specialists in the design and execution of agricultural, educational and sanitary projects.

Different activities are also carried out in Spain to further the goals of the Foundation. In 2004, a Magdala Foundation shop was opened in Majadahonda to promote fair trade.   Additionally, monthly conferences are held in order to raise social consciousness regarding subjects such as the situation of women in developing countries, immigration in Spain or the situation of children in underprivileged countries.
Finally the Foundation organises children's workshops to favour cultural integration.
