Gestair participates in EASA initiative on the impact of climate change on aviation safety

Madrid, November 29, 2023

Gestair's aviation safety department participated in the kick-off meeting of the European Network on Impact of Climate Change on Aviation (EN-ICCA) held in Cologne, Germany. This new initiative launched by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), is based on better understanding the effects of climate change on aviation. The main objective of this working group is to prepare the industry and aviation authorities to cope with these changes and to ensure that European aviation maintains its high safety standards.

The initiative is open to participation by all European aviation stakeholders, including airlines, aircraft manufacturers, air navigation service providers, aeronautical authorities, research groups and meteorological agencies.

The EN-ICCA will focus on the following research areas:

  • Identification of the specific risks of climate change for aviation
  • Development of measures to mitigate these risks
  • Evaluation of the effectiveness of these measures

During this kick-off meeting, Gestair presented some of the initiatives the company is considering to manage the impact of climate change on aviation, as scientific evidence shows that the severity of weather phenomena could be increase in a future.

Gestair will be working with the scientific community and industry over the coming months to gain more knowledge about the impact of climate change on aviation and recommendations to mitigate potential hazards that may arise in the coming years.

Likewise, and in parallel with the EN-ICCA working group, Gestair Group is proactive in reducing its climate footprint. The company, within its HORIZON program, in its firm commitment to action and social responsibility in the face of climate change, is moving forward with new alliances and actions that allow it to push its clear commitment to a more sustainable future.
