Gestair MRO and Sirium Aerotech to modernise the amphibious aircraft fleet of the Ministry of Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge

The joint venture Gestair Maintenance and Sirium Aerotech, has been awarded the tender for the "Design, certification and supply of 11 modernization kits for the CL-215T series 5 amphibious aircraft fleet of the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO)".

This project is part of the ambitious growth plan designed for Gestair MRO, which already has more than 23,000m2 of hangars in Madrid and training to perform major maintenance and modifications oriented to customer needs on more than 20 aircraft models. Gestair MRO continues to expand its area of work beyond corporate aviation, qualifying itself for larger models such as Airbus 310, Boeing 737, etc.

The work to be carried out, from Gestair MRO together with Sirium Aerotec, will be the design, certification and installation of a new avionics architecture in 10 CL-215T amphibious aircraft, in order to comply with the requirements of the EASA Single European Sky Regulation, with the regulations for fighting forest fires required by MITECO as well as with the specific requirements and functionalities designated by the aircraft operator. On the other hand, as a commitment to action and responsibility towards climate change, the avionics modernization of the CL-215T fleet will help to fight fires more efficiently and protect nature.

The project awarded for more than 22 million euros, financed by the European Union - NextGeneration EU, includes different phases: the development of a basic engineering project and its certification, the implementation in a first prototype aircraft in the Albacete training centre and the supply of material for the remaining aircraft as dealers of the new avionics platform.

In addition, specific equipment and tools will be provided for the on-line maintenance of the new equipment, as well as training will be given to the EA/MITECO flight and maintenance technical staff on the new avionics architecture introduced by the implemented modification.
